Prior to 2005, the Bengali community in Brussels and adjoining
communities was rather loosely structured with somewhat limited
reach and access, although it did get together on a handful of
occasions each year.
The desire to cradle and nurture our rich and diverse culture
outside our homeland provided the impetus for the formation of this
Association. Our objective is to ensure the preservation of Bengali
culture, further its advancement and make use of it towards the
enrichment of the multi-cultural ethos of Belgian society.
Our main activity has been the annual celebration of the New Years
Day (Nobo Barsho), during which we also present an authentic Bengali
“adda”, “jhaal muri” and an unpretentious and often spontaneous
cultural program. Occasionally we also promote the performances of
Indian Regional arts maestros in collaboration with the Indian
Embassy and the Palais des Beaux Arts.
Membership consists of approximately 30–40 families. Our members and
guests represent a well-educated and successful cross-section of the
Bengali-Indian and European community engaged in
engineering, medicine, information technology, marketing,
communications, music, the arts, business and other professional
Membership can be obtained simply by contacting any of our Executive
Members and registering your contact details.
We welcome everybody interested in Bengali culture regardless of
nationality, ethnicity or religion.
